What is a matcha whisk?
The matcha whisk, also known as a chasen, is traditionally handmade from a single piece of bamboo and comes in different thicknesses and number of wires ("teeth" of the whisk). The purpose of the whisk is to get the matcha into a uniform consistency, as the powder tends to clump when it comes in contact with water. If you do not use a traditional whisk in your preparation, you are likely to miss the delicate nuances that only perfectly blended matcha with just the right amount of foam on top can provide.
Becoming a master of the Japanese tea ceremony takes years of dedication, but that doesn't mean you can't incorporate the matcha whisk into your daily routine.

Put the whisk under a gentle stream of hot water until it is clean.
[How to Clean Matcha Chasen]
Pour hot water into a chawan (matcha bowl) and whisk until the whisk is clean, then pour out the water. Dry the chasen and chawan completely before storing. Important note: Never use soap and never run your bamboo whisk through the dishwasher, as both cleaning methods can seriously damage the whisk.
What is a Matcha teaspoon?
This is a spoon made of bamboo to put a small amount of Matcha powder in. Using the chashaku (bamboo spoon), drop the Matcha powder into the bowl. About two full drops is enough (about 2 g of Matcha). The amount may vary according to your taste.

Wat is een Matcha garde?

De matcha garde, ook wel chasen genoemd, wordt traditioneel met de hand gemaakt uit één stuk bamboe en is verkrijgbaar in verschillende diktes en aantal draden (“tanden” van de garde). Het doel van de garde is om de matcha in een uniforme consistentie te krijgen, omdat het poeder de neiging heeft te klonteren wanneer het in contact komt met water. Als je geen traditionele garde gebruikt bij je bereiding, mis je waarschijnlijk de delicate nuances die alleen perfect gemengde matcha met precies de juiste hoeveelheid schuim bovenop kan bieden.

Een meester worden in de Japanse theeceremonie vergt jaren van toewijding, maar dat betekent niet dat je de matcha garde niet in je dagelijkse routine kunt opnemen.

Zet de garde onder een zachte straal heet water totdat hij schoon is.

[Hoe Matcha Chasen schoonmaken]

Giet heet water in een chawan (matcha kom) en klop tot de garde schoon is, giet het water er vervolgens uit. Droog de chasen en de chawan volledig af voordat u ze opbergt. Belangrijke opmerking: Gebruik nooit zeep en haal uw bamboe garde nooit door de vaatwasmachine, want beide reinigingsmethodes kunnen de garde ernstig beschadigen.

Wat is een Matcha theelepel?

Dit is een lepeltje van bamboe om een klein beetje Matcha-poeder in te doen. Met de chashaku (bamboelepel) laat u het Matcha-poeder in de kom vallen. Ongeveer twee volle druppels is voldoende (ongeveer 2 g Matcha). De hoeveelheid kan variëren naargelang uw smaak.
